A NEW STUD
MR. W. R. STEAD'S TROJECT Mr. W. R. Stead, a descendant of a family which has played a prominent part in thoroughbred breeding and racing in New Zealand, has removed his Sasanoi Stud from Hastings, to Richmond Park, Longlands, stales the Dominion. Mr. Stead has relinquished a position he held with a Hawke's Bay mercantile firm, and will devote the whole of his time to his new undertaking, which will include the importation of an English stallion. For some years Mr. Stead has been acquiring brood mares from the successful taproots, and his stud already includes Hit Muzzle, who is by Law Maker (sire of Lawrence and Counsel) and descends from Teppo; Romano, a Pantheon mare descending from Yippingale, a threequarter sister to Popinjay the dam of Magpie; Freesia 11., a granddaughter of Chelandry; Desirable, who descends from Eulogy; and Princess Ball, a half-sister to Gay Ballerina and La Moderne. This is a good foundation on which to build a stud.
