SCOUTS RECEIVE £500
SARGOOD BEQUESTS GIFT An atmosphere of enthusiasm marked a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Boy Scouts' Association last night, held after a dinner in the R.S-A. rooms. About ISO were present under the chairmanship of Mr. Douglas Robb. Sir Joseph Smith, president of the Auckland council, announced that a cheque for £500 had been received from the trustees of the Sargood Bequest. This meant that the association would be able to continue its occupation of its present rooms. Representatives of the Girl Guides' Association attended, and it was announced that the first member of the association had left for Europe to assist with rehabilitation work. This was Miss G. Roberton, who was travelling to Greece where she would take up interpreting duties. Formerly of Papakura and more recently an ex-prisoner of war from Singapore, Sergeant S. W. Peers, who was a member of the Straits Settlement Volunteer Force, gave a short address on the activities of scouts during the occupation of Singapore. The local boys, he said, ran a mc.it efficient first-aid post.
