PERAK DISORDERS Troops Called Out To Scatter Demonstrators Rec. 11 a.m. SINGAPORE, Oct. 25. British and Indian troops were called out to disperse demonstrations organised in all towns and villages in the rich tin-producing State of Perak last week-end, state agency correspondents at Singapore, quoting delayed official reports. Men paraded with slogans, "We want work. We want rice." Troops at Sungeisput fired on a large crowd which' refused to disperse. One man was killed and several wounded. Demonstrators at Paritbuntar seized a British civil affairs officer as a hostage. When Indian troops, who are forbidden to use arms, attempted to rescue him they were beaten up. Later official reports state that three persons were killed and four wounded when troops fired on a demonstrating crowd at Taiping. The demonstration followed refusal by the authorities to release 14 arrested after earlier demonstrations. The crowd, armed with staves, was warned to disperse, but refused, whereupon a few volleys were fired. The crowd scattered, leaving dead and wounded.
