EXTENDED SERVICE

OFFER MADE TO AIRMEN GRATUITY AT END OP PERIOD O.C. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. A statement that«an offer was being made to some overseas members of the Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm to sign on for an extended period of service, with the payment cf a gratuity at its conclusion, was made by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, when he was asked to comment on a cable message from London stating that "hostilities only" Eilots of the Fleet Air Arm were eing offered a gratuity of £500 to stay in the service for another four years. Mr. Jones said he understood that the offer would be open to airmen from the Dominions as well as those from Great Britain. However, he could not say to what extent this would be availed of by New Zealanders of the Fleet Air Arm or men of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
