BIG INCREASES
TOTALISATOR TURNOVERS NEW RECORDS SET Exceeding last year's total by £221,604, record investments of £932,112 were put through the totalisator at racing and trotting meetings held by eight clubs during the Labour Day week-end. The increase over the 1943 figures was £231,800, or 33 per cent. An increase of just under 40 per cent was shown at the Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting, and there was a rise of 33 per cent in the amount handled by the Waikato Hunt Club. The meetings at Auckland, Wellington and Greymouth extended over two days, the remainder being one-day fixtures.
Increases were shown at all of the eight meetings, that at Auckland, £78,244. being the largest. Wellington, which last year showed a decrease of £26,794, had an increase of £69.200. The largest percentage increases were at Oamaru, 41 per cent, and Waverley, 40 per cent. Gore, Oamaru and North Canterbury recorded decreases last year.
