DOCK STRIKE

CALL TO RETURN. Sequel To Long Meeting Of Union Officials N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 12.30 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 22. The national docks group of the Transport and General Workers' Union, after a long meeting, decided to call on all members of the union at present out on strike to resume forthwith in order to allow negotiations to proceed. Earlier, dockers at Hartlepool, where 300 have been striking since October 8, decided to return to work to-morrow with the reservation that they would resume striking if cases •at present' waiting for arbitration were not heard this week. An earlier message said the number of striking dockers in London increased to-day to over 11,000 when 800 men came out at Surrey and 500 from West India docks. Troops, in the meanwhile, are discharging cargoes from 22 foodships. Two Merseyside strike committeemen - have arrived in London to discuss with London leaders the minimum conditions for a return to work.
