EARLY IMMIGRANT SHIPS
ARRIVED 103 YEARS AGO In commemoration of the 103 rd anniversary of the arrival of the immigrant ships, Duchess of Argyle and Jane Gifford, a thanksgiving service was held in St. Andrew's Church, Symonds Street, yesterday under the auspices of the New Zealand Old Colonists' Association. There was a large congregation. The service was conducted by the Rev. D. N. Pryor, who, in referring to the approaching centenary of St. Andrew's Church, said that a history of the church was being compiled, although lack of complete records was making the work airncult. ™ The lf ss ons were read by the Mayor, Mr. Allum, vice-patron of the association, and Mr. J. He said that the organising secretary, Mr. S. ColdicuttAad instituted the roll 28 years ago and At the conclusion of the service many of the old people met and ' exchanged reminiscences.
