DANGER ON A HIGHWAY

I wish to draw public attention to a very real menace to on the Great South Road. Between the Harp of Erin and Penrose the roadway between the kerbs is very narrow, only one-third of its boundary width, the footpaths needlessly occupying the other two-thirds. This was the result of some local body planners widening the paths some years ago, sacrificing human safety on the altar of economy. Car drivers (and sometimes bus drivers, too) have a habit of passing one another at high speed, having to cross over on the wrong side in the process. Several times lately I have had hairs-breadth escapes from being killed while cycling from night shift work at 8 a.m., tired out and hardly able to keep my eyes open. Yesterday I was driven into the kerb by an oncoming car determined to pass another one at'4o m.p.h. It is time the traffic department woke up and took some action. Where are the traffic inspectors anyway? Or can it be that a cvclist has no right on the road at all? FREEDOM WITHOUT LICENSE.
