NURSES' REMUNERATION

Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, this day. Negotiations that have been taking place for increases in nurses' remuneration were mentioned by the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon in reply to Mrs. Hilda Ross (Nat., Hamilton), who made a strong plea for improvement in the salaries paid to nurses and voluntary aids. "I understand that negotiations have been taking place between the Nurses' Association and the Hospital Boards' Association and that an amended scale, which makes provision for certain increases, is before the Stabilisation Commission at the present time," stated the Minister. Mrs. Ross said she did not think there was any section of the community which gave better service, complained less and worked harder than members of the nursing profession. She also did not think there was any section which was paid less for the service given.
