DUKE OF WINDSOR BACK IN ENGLAND
WELCOME IN LONDON
Crowds Shout And Surge Round Car N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 5. The Duke of Windsor set foot on English soil for the first time in nearly nine years when he arrived at Hendon in an Royal Air Force Dakota transport from France today. "I am glad to be back," said the Duke. "I am here for only a few days this time." After greeting old friends, the Duke drove in a closed car to Marlborough House, Queen Mary's London home. Hundreds surged round the Duke's car as it entered Pall Mall, in which Marlborough House is situated. Women had waited for hours and the police cordon was unable to hold them back. Policemen were brushed aside and women fell and were trampled on. The crowd shouted: "Good old Edward," "Long live the Duke of Windsor," "Welcome Home." Women kept shouting: "We want you back." The Duke smiled in acknowledgment. The King met the Duke to-night when he dined with Queen Mary at Marlborough House.
