SIX MONTHS FOR THEFT
ARTICLES TAKEN FROM CAR "This man has a bad list and he is a bad type of Maori who apparently is no sooner out of gaol than he is in again," said Senior Detective Trethewey in referring to Edward Taone Repia (28), a labourer, after he had been convicted in the Police Court to-day for the theft of an overcoat and scarf, of a total value of £9. Repia pleaded not guilty. Stating that the overcoat and scarf had been stolen from a parked car in Shortland Street, Mr. Trethewey added that thefts from motor cars in the city were prevalent and caused a great deal of trouble. After perusing Repia's list of previous convictions, Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., commented: "It is a shocking list. You are becoming a bad criminal, and a very clever one, too."
Repia was sentenced to six montns' imprisonment.
