NEW POTATO SUPPLY IMPROVES New potatoes arp late this season in making their appearance in any quantity at the city markets, but supplies are gradually improving. Excellent supplies of asparagus are now coming forward, with prices fair. Although the season is nearly finished for celery, heavy supplies are coming forward, with priccs low. Lettuce is in good supply and meet a fair demand. Rhubarb is also In heavy supply, with prices steady. There is a good demand for hothouse tomatoes. Only fancy grade grapefruit of picked sizes are in, demand.. The demand for passion fruit is good. Flowers are in fairly short supply. The demand is keen and prices are moderate to high. Egg Prices.—Hen: Standard grade, 1/8',3 pec do/en. Duck: Standard grade, 1/8^.2. Fruit.—Tomatoes: Hothouse, 2/9 to 4/4 per 2b. Oranges: Local sweet, 27/ per case. Tree tomatoes: New black, 14/ to 30/; yellow, 16/ to 18/. Grapefruit: New Zealand, 12/ to 22/. Passion Xruit: 30/ to 38/. Vegetables.—Asparagus: 9d to 1/8 per bundle. Beet: 5/ to 16/ per case. Celery: Cooking, 6d to 1/ per bundle; dessert, 1/6 to 3/. Carrots: 3/ to 10/ per bag. Cauliflowers: 10/ to 28/ per sack. Cabbages: 8/ to 13/6. Cucumbers: Hothouse, 17/ to 20/ per dozen. Kumaras: 32/3 per cwt. Leeks: 1/3 to 3/ per bundle. Lettuce 5/ to 18/ per case. Marrows: 8/ to 14/ per sack. Onions: 18/ to 29/9 per cwt. Potatoes: southern, 13/ to 15/6; new, 3d to per lb. Pumpkins: 35/6 per cwt. Parsnips: 29/ per cwt. Radish: 1/3 to 2/6 per. dozen. Rhubarb: 5/ to 8/. Spinach: 5/ to 10/ per case. Spring onions: 1/6 to 3/6 per bundle. Swedes: 4/6 to 5/3 per bag. Turnips: 6/ to 9/ per case. Brussels sprouts: 1/ to 1/6 per lb. Poultry.—At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was heavy and the demand was keen. The prices paid remained unchanged for most lines, with choice cockerels in short supply, which accounted for a rise of 1/ per head for some. Selling rates were as follow: —Cockercls: Heavy breeds, prime 10/ to 13/ each, not prime 5/; light breeds, prime 5/ to 6/. not prime 3/6 to 4/. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 6/ to 7/6; light breeds, 4/ to 5/. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 10/, smaller 5/; light breeds, best 5/ to 5/6, r •nailer 3/Drakes: Young, prime 5/, smaller 2/. Ducks: Young, 5/ to 6/;; old. 2/6 to 3/. Geese: 4/ to 5/, Turkey hens, 10/ to 15/. Gobblers, 15/ to £l % Cockerel chicks, heavy breeds, 1/.
