RELEASES FROM ARMY
SIXTEENTH REINFORCEMENT
The demobilisation of 1600 men who were in training at Papakura camp for the 16th Reinforcement will begin on Monday and it is expected that this will be completed toward the end Of the week. As the reinforcement was on leave at the time the decision was made to release the men to civilian life they were not recalled to camp. With the exception of those from the Auckland military area, who will be demobilised from Papakura, all the men are to receive their releases through their local areas.
In accordance with the policy announced by the Government, a small number of single men and married men without children are being retained so that men with long seryice and those in higher categories may be demobilised. Only men not in priority industries are being retained, decision in this connection being made after consultation between the Army and manpower authorities. Unless they volunteer to remain in the service, married men with children and former members of the Third Division will not be held. Men who were employed on farms and in the dairying industry are all to be released. All being demobilised after home service are to receive the usual notice directing them to report to the manpower office for direction to industry.
