NEW BRITISH OFFICE
CHANGE IX MIDDLE EAST Rec. 1 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 24. The British Government has decided to replace the office of the Minister Resident in the Middle East by a British Middle East Office at Cairo. Sir Arnold Overtoil, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Production, will, early in October, assume control of the new office.

Official Communist sources state that General Mao Tse-tung, chairman of the Chinese Communist party, is sending General Chou En Lai to Chungking in response to Generalissimo Chiang's invitation to send a representative to discuss the peaceful settlement of internal political problems.
