FAILED TO REPORT
RESERVIST SURRENDERS
TWO MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT
Having surrendered himself this morning, Selwyn Wilson (27), a steel worker, later appeared before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to report at the Drill Hall, Rutland Street, on July 8, 1943, to proceed to camp. Sergeant-Major Wood said Wilson had been called up by ballot in 1941, when he was examined arid graded 1. He lodged an appeal on undue hardship and conscientious grounds, but the appeal was struck out by the board. Later, the matter was held over on his employer's appeal until May, 1943, when Wilson was made available for service. Several notices sent out had been returned unclaimed. Wilson told the magistrate he had no idea of the seriousness of the matter.
A sentence of two months' imprisonment was imposed.
