GIFT TO LONDON
RATIONED FOODSTUFFS
LORD MAYOR'S APPRECIATION
Appreciation of the action of New Zealanders in sending rationed foodstuffs to the people of London is expressed in a letter received by the Mayoress of Auckland, Mrs. Allum, who initiated the scheme, from the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Frank Alexander.
'We will arrange at once to get in touch with the Ministry of Food, to whom the foodstuffs will be shipped, and arrange for their distribution through various Mayors in the poorer districts of London, and also for photographs to be taken of their distribution by the Mayors to the actual recipients," writes Sir Frank.
The gift, he adds, will be distributed as supplementary rations and will not require the production of coupons.
"I am very glad to have the privilege of being associated with you in the gift, although I am not clear whether it will be delivered in London during my term of office, which expires on November 8, but my successor will be only too pleased to take on such a very agreeable task," Sir Frank concludes.
