TRANSIT HOUSING
SCHEME AT HAMILTON
CAMP FOR MOTORISTS LATER O.C. HAMILTON, this day. The Hamilton Borough Council has decided to make inquiries with a view to obtaining the use of Air Force huts at the Clarence Street camp for temporary housing. The borough had created a fine asset in the establishment of a transit camp near the Fairfield bridge, said the Mayor, Mr. H. D. Caro, to-day. Fifteen units had been provided and it was expected that tenants would be occupying them within four weeks. The type of residence was suitable for anyone, every convenience being provided. The revenue to be derived from the huts was mentioned by Mr. Caro. He said that when the premises were no longer required for a transit camp, the area would become a motor camp and, being in an ideal setting, it should prove popular with visitors. Mr. W. H. Paul had undertaken to beautify the surroundings.
