SANSON "TRAMWAY"

MAY BE SCRAPPED SOON

O.C. PALMERSTON N., this day. Familiar to thousands of motorists who have travelled oyer the Auck-land-Wellington highway for many years, the Manawatu County Council's private railway, known as the Sanson tramway, Which runs from a point near the Rangitikei River bridge to Foxton, may soon be scrapped, the council having decided to keep it open for only three months more on trial-. The line is used now almost solely for the transport of road metal. If kept open on ordinary schedule it will entail a loss of £500 annually. In earlier days the railway was of great value to settlers in the transport of goods and stock between the port of Foxton and farms.
