CHINESE SUCCESSES
Capture Of Wolfram Mining
Centre
ACCESS TO SOUTH COAST
Rec. 12.30 p.m. CHUNGKING, July 10 The High Command lias announced that the Chinese have recaptured Tayu, in the heart of the wolfram mining region of Kwangsi province, 45 miles south-west of Kanlisien. The recapture of Tayu has isolated Kanhsien by severing the Japanese communications with Kukong, an important road and rail centre. Other Chinese, pushing from liberated Liuchow toward Kweilin, scored new gains along the LiuchowKweilin highway and the LiuchowHengyang railway. The Army spokesman, MajorGeneral Kuo Chi-chih, said that the Japanese abandonment of the corridor to Indo-China has virtually opened to the Chinese armies the South China coast, particularly in the area between Indo-China and the Luerhow Peninsula. He added that the only Japanese connection now between China and Indo-China is junk transport, which is forced to creep in the night time through the Hainan Strait and hug the coast to avoid Allied air attacks.
