FURTHER REDUCTION

BROADCASTING HOURS

WELLINGTON, Thursday.

In an effort to conserve electricity a further reduction of half an hour in the hours of broadcasting will come into operation on Monday. From that day all broadcasting stations will shut down on Mondays to Fridays, inclusive, from 8.10 a.m. to 8.40 a.m., from 11 a.m. to noon, and from 5 p.m to 6 p.m. instead of from 5.15 p.m. to 5.45 p.m. at present. This reduction was announced tonight in a joint statement by the Minister of Supply, Mr. Sullivan, and the i Minister of Broadcasting, Mr. Jones, who pointed out that this additional cut had become a necessity to assist in checking the continually rising demand for electricity in the North Island. The Ministers added that the hours of broadcasting had now been reduced by lo per cent, each day.
