Leave Troopship Because Of

Filthy Conditions

INCIDENT AT BRISBANE

Rec. 1 p.m. BRISBANE, this day. Complaining about the conditions on board a troopship, about 300 soldiers left the vessel at Brisbane wharf. They refused to return until an inspection had been made by medical officers. Later it was announced that 200 men would be taken off the ship. The soldiers said the ship, a converted cargo vessel, was filthy and that the accommodation was too cramped. They were allotted sleeping areas of six feet by two and a half feet and no palliaSes or mat- . tresses were provided.
