THE PUBLIC'S SHARE
MOOR AND MOUNTAIN DEMANDS BY RAMBLERS LONDON. Ramblers are demanding that large tracts of mountain and moorland which are now jealously-guarded game preserves should be thrown open to the public.
The demand is made in a memorandum submitted to the Minister of Town and Country Planning by the Ramblers' Association.
The memorandum, urging new legislation to replace the 1939 Access to Mountains Act, says:
"In the past the public has enjoyed, if not the right, at least the unquestioned privilege of walking freely over uncultivated land.
"But as a result of the development of deer forests and grouse moors, this privilege has been lost in many places."
