RUGBY REPS.
KEENNESS AT TRAINING
DEAS RETURNING NORTH
The need for much more intensive covering and backing-up by the forwards was stressed when the Auckland Rugby representatives trained last nighty a- the Ponsonby gymnasium. Although the next official outing—against Waikato—'will not take place until the end of next month, considerable keenness was evident throughout the training. The sole selector, Mr. F. W. Lucas, did not call on any fresh players last night, and there was nearly a full muster of the team which played at Waikato on the King's Birthday. Charlie Cammick put the backs through their paces and "Snowy" Lucas drilled the forwards. There is a possibility that Les Deas, brilliant young centre three-quarter of last season, who has been playing in Christchurch and Wellington this seasonmay be turning out for Whenuapai on Saturday. Deas, it is understood, will be on leave in Auckland, but it is believed that he will soon complete his duties in Wellington and will be playing Rugby here about the end of next month. With two backs of the calibre of' G. Delamore and Deas available, in addition to present talent offering, Auckland should be able to field a first-class back fine in its later representative engagements this season.
