LIST OF 6000 NAMES
MAJORITY ARE YOUTHS
I P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. A further Gazette notice calling men up for service in the armed forces and containing some 6000 names is being published to-day, according to an announcement by the Minister of National Service, ' Mr. McLagan. The majority are youths who have attained the age of 18 since the last call up in November, 1944, and will not be liable for f immediate mobilisation. Consequently, said the Minister, ' there is no need for appeals to be » submitted at this stage, and adei quate facilities will be provided for -■ the lodging of appeals later, when i liability for mobilisation actually •- eventuates. There will be the names I of a number of men in the Gazette who, by reason of their age would ; be liable for immediate service, and in these cases, if postponement is I sought, the rijrht of appeal should I be exercised at once. I The Minister added: "The calling j up of- these men is in pursuance of i the normal procedure for the creation , of a reserve of manpower ' for military purposes, and must of l necessity be continued until the I final victory over Japan is achieved."

Christehurch being next with 1010,' then ; Wellington with 721. Dunedin with 497, f and Napier with 453:
