RUGBY PARADE
REP. CANDIDATES
TRAINING RUN LAST NIGHT
A full muster of 24 candidates for selection in the Auckland Rugby representative side to meet Waikato at Hamilton on the King's Birthday assembled for training at the Ponsonby gymnasium last night. ,Sprlnting, passing and tactical training was done by the backs under the guidance of the selector, Mr. F. W. Lucas, and Mr. t. Cammick, ■while the forwards worked at scrummaging, line-out play and dribbling, watched by Mr. L. S. Drake, who is i assistant selector to Mr. Lucas. Keenness and enthusiasm were the keynotes struck, and it would appear that Auckland will again be represented by a solid, well-balanced fifteen, with experience a dominant factor, it was evident that there will be keen rivalry for several places in the team, particularly as regards the forwards.
C. N. Klngstone (Ponsonby), who has been on the injured list, turned out for training, and though he may rest up this Saturday, he will be available for selection in the representative team. It would now appear that the former Auckland and Canterbury full back will be played at centre, and thus solve the biggest problem facing the selector. Choice of full back will now rest between G. Littlejohn (Manukau) and R. Sorenson (Marist). M. ft. Paewai, former University and South Island half-back' and now captain of the Aotea Maori Club, has returned from the south, and his keenness was shown by the fact that last night he trained with his club side prior to having a run with the representatives. B. Waldegrave, the Navy front row man, was also on the scene, and will be making his first appearance of the season in Auckland football on Saturday. A. R. Cooper, the Otahuhu threequarter, is now in the Army, but he will probably still be playing for the suburban side. A. D. Pike, the former Auckland Rugby representative hooker, who switched over to League this season, is also in the Army,, and it is stated that he will be playing Rugby this week for the Papakura Army side, which is in the second division. Boryer, a prolific scorer for Manukau, has Joined the Navy, and may not be playing for Manukau for several weeks.
