To the innumerable messages of congratulation which came to Mr. Churchill on the occasion of his seventieth birthday, the war correspondent ot me London Daily Telegraph added one unwilling tribute from a German prisoner. As he entered battalion headquarters, under guard, he exclaimed: "I cannot but admire your Churchill. He promised you blood and tears and has given you victory. Hitler promised us victory and has given' us—blood and tears."
