SOLDIERS JOIN IN CHEERING
Rec. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, May 14.! Field-Marshal Montgomery arrived in London by air to-day. He visited the War Office for a conference but was unnoticed by the crowds in thej flag-bedecked streets. When he left the War Office this ; afternoon the popular Field-Marshal was mobbed. He had been recog- i nised just as he entered the War Office and by the time he emerged i half an hour later a crowd of several j hundred surged around his car. j
A great cheer went up as "Monty" appeared in the doorway. Some soldiers stood at attention and saluted, while others,. disregarding formality, raised their caps and cheered as heartily as the rest of the crowd. Many civilians thumped l him on the back as he struggled to his car. I
