Super Fortresses Bomb Six Airfields GAINS' ON OKINAWA Rec. 1.30. WASHINGTON, April 29. Marianas-based Super Fortresses bombed Kanoya, Kushira, Izumi, Miyazaki, Miyakonojo and Kokubu airfields, on Kyushu, Japan, to-day, says a Twentieth Air Force communique. Results were good and anti-aircraft fire meagre. The Americans shot down 12 and probably destroyed another eight Japanese planes. One Super Fortress was lost. Admiral Nimitz's communique says: The 24th Army Corps moved slowly forward in Southern Okinawa yesterday. Enemy aircraft attacked United States shipping off Okinawa beaches yesterday and to-day, causing some damage and sinking one auxiliary surface unit. Twentyfive enemy aircraft were shot down and two probably destroyed. Enemy small craft activity increased during the night. We destroved a number of small boats. Air patrols from carriers shot down 32 enemy planes over the Ryukyus. Search aircraft sank three small cargo ships and damaged several others to-day.
