AUCKLAND BARRISTER
MR. S. I. GOODAIjTJ APPOINTED
Announcement is made of the appointment of Mr. S. I. Goodall, an Auckland barrister and solicitor, as a magistrate. His duties are expected to commence on June 1, and he will probably sit on the Auckland Bench. He is at present a partner in the legal firm of Goodall and Kayes. Mr. Goodall, who is 48 years of age, was born in Kaikoura, Marlborough, and was educated atv the district high school there, and Wellington College. In his early years he engaged in farming and served as clerk of a road board. He served in New Zealand with the armed forces during the last war. Continuing his education at Victoria University College after his discharge he was in 1921 admitted as a solicitor and the following year as a barrister. He gained his master's degree in law in 1923 and was awarded the Jacob Joseph Scholarship in Law and the Senior Scholarship in Law for New Zealand.
After practising in Wellington with the legal firm of Meek and von Haast, he joined the firm of Stanton, Johnstone and Spence in Auckland, and went into practice on his own account in Auckland in 1927. His present partnership was formed in 1929.
Crown representative of an Auckland and a Whangarei Armed Forces Appeal Board until these were reconstituted, Mr. Goodall has also been chairman of the North Auckland Land Sales Committee since its inception. He has been a member of the council of the Auckland District Law Society for about five years, and for about 18 years he has lectured at the Auckland University College. He has also done a considerable amount of writing on lega' matters.
