STABLEMATE OF WINNER

Broiefield, favourite for the Tc Mahanga Handicap at Uie Hawke's Bay meeting last Saturday, and a stablemate of the winner. Rink, had to encounter difficulties before he finished third. He was favourably placed throughout the race, lying third most of the way behind Voltaire and Rink. The last-named overhauled Voltaire half way down the straight, where Catterick Bridge also came into the picture. The post was coming within range before Broiefield was asked for his effort, and then his run had to be made between two horses where there was not sufficient room, states a southern writer. Ifl the circumstances there was merit in his third placing. Broiefield is a good performer and ultimately he will be put to jumping—a branch of racing at which he has already shown promise In private.
