MENTAL HOSPITALS
STAFF MEMBERS CONFER P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. Under the auspices of the New Zealand Public Service Association, representatives of the staff of the mental hospitals met recently at Porirua in a three-day conference. Matters relating to the working conditions, accommodation, representation on public service executive and suggested *new salary rates were dis-, cussed, and remits were adopted for presentation to the executive of the association.
The conference delegates met the Public Service Commissioner and the Director-General of Mental Hospitals, and before disbandment had discussions with executive officers of the association. The following witnesses were elected to present a case for the various groups before the consultative committee at present engaged in the formulation of new salary scales for the public service:— Nurses, Miss P. F. McAuley (Porirua); cooks and laundresses, Mrs. Gibson (Tokanui Farm); garden staff, E. O. Peterson (Porirua).
