CAR OYER BANK
FALL INTO FLOODED RIVER ' FAMILY'S NARROW ESCAPE TE KUITI, Friday. When a car capsized over a bank into the flooded Mangaotaki River, . five miles south of Piopio, and be- ' came submerged, a man and his wife . and their five children had a narrow 5 : escape, just managing to get clear. The mother, Mrs. Herbert Sims, of .Ongarue, suffered chest injuries, bruises and shock, and her condition is serious. The eldest daughter, Dorothy Sims, aged 13, suffered a minor eye injury. Both were admitted to the Te Kuiti Hospital. Mr. Sims and the remaining four chil- . dren were unhurt. The children's ages ranged from 21 to 14 years. All except the young- • est were good swimmers. The youngest was rescued by one of the older children. The car was overturned' and washed downstream for 100 yards.
