HUN PLANES DESTROYED Rec. 2 p.m. LONDON, April 10. Eighth Air Force Mustangs and Thunderbolts destroyed at least 227 enemy planes' on the ground while escorting heavy bombers against jet plane airfields near Berlin, beating the previous record of 177 destroyed on the ground on September 5, 1944, states a United States Army Air Force communique. One Mustang group alone destroyed 100 parked planes on one aerodrome, which beat the previous record of 70 destroyed on one aerodrome. The Luftwaffe to-day sent up what is believed to be a record number of jet-propelled fighters to oppose Fortresses and Liberators, and 18 enemy planes were destroyed in the air.
