"SILVER" SENATORS
Views On World Monetary Agreement WANT RECOGNITION OF SILVER Rec. 2.30. NEW YORK, April 6. TThe "Silver Group" of the United States Senate, which probably holds the balance in the Senate on the Bretton Wooods Bill, has made clear to the administration their terms for supporting this legislation, says the New York Times Washington correspondent. The "silver" Senators desire world recognition of silver as monetary metal. Senator P. McCarran, of Nevada, the spokesman for the "silver" Senators, said they want provision in the international monetary agreement that silver would be recognised as the means of settlement of international balances. Mexico and other silver-producing countries are likeminded; Treasury officials are apparently unfavourable.
