BRIGHT TENNIS
EASTER TOURNAMENT
J. BARRY IN FINE FORM
Play at the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's Easter tournament this morning was confined to doubles matches, and several first-class exhibitions were witnessed. B. J. Baxter and Miss E. Attwood, the Auckland' champions, defeated a strong pair in O. Bold (Wellington) and Miss J. Ramsay in straight sets, while W. Huckstep and Mrs. R W. Smith scored a fairly easy win over. R. Wehtzel and Mrs. Wentzel. . The best tennis of the morning was provided by J. Barry and Miss G. Trezlse, who were defeated in three sets by G. Radonich and Miss R. Hodges. Barry Played brilliant tennis throughout, and he and his partner were a trifle unlucky to go under. They held a commanding lead in the first set, and then lost it by the odd game. Barry dominated play in the second set, which they won with the loss of two games. The final set was particularly keenly contested. Fortunes fluctuated throughout, and in the end Radonich and Miss Hodges triumphed 6—5. by virtue of theh- superior steadiness. The New Zealand champion, Nell Edwards and his wife, had a straight set victory in the combined doubles, defeating I. Thompson and Mrs. Radford. In a match which was mainly remarkable for the fine recovery made t>y the losing pair in the third set, R. H. Lewis and M Wakefleld beat J. Barry and R. Wentzel in three sets in the men s doubles: Barry and Wentzel were down I—s in the final set but, with Barry playing at peak form, they rallied and evined scores at s—all. Barry saved three match points in the vital game only to lose the set, 5—6. Results were as follows: — FIRST SECTION MIXED DOUBLES. Second Rmmd.-O. Radontch and Miss B. Hodges beat J.
