'VARSITY EIGHTS WON COMFORTABLY BY CANTERBURY CREW
Special. WELLINGTON, this day. The course for' the inter-university college boat race at Oriental Bay this afternoon was shortened from two miles to one and a quarter miles to avoid rough water in the first stages. The race developed into a comfortable win for the CanterburyCollege eight, which finished four lengths ahead of Otago, with Auckland third one length and a half away. Auckland held a slight lead early, and as Victoria fell back both they and Otago crossed in front of the local eight which had drawn number one position nearest the shore. Canterbury, on the outside, was pressed by Otago until the last quar-ter-mile, when the former drew away for a convincing win.
