GENERAL'S MISSION
SUPPLIES FROM DOMINION HEAVY FUTURE REQUIREMENTS On a short 'visit to New Zealand to arrange for supplies from the Dominion for the use of the forces in the South-west Pacific and Middle East areas, Major-General R. P. Pakenham-Walsh, C.8., M.C., a member of the Eastern Group Supply Council and Central Provisional Office, arrived in Auckland yesterday from India. Accompanying General Pakenham - Walsh Were Lieutenant-Colonel J. H. T. Dowsett, who is also from India, and Major M. D. Rhoden, an Imperial officer stationed in Australia. General Pakenham-Walsh said that the view of many people that, with the conclusion of the war in Europe, there would be no necessity for maintaining the same supplies of foodstuffs and other materials was definitely wrong. The fight against Japan would necessitate the fullest contributions from all countries in the way of supplies, while the policing of Germany and the rehabilitating of European countries would also set production problems.
