SCHOOL CHILDREN ON TRAMS
I have read several complaints regarding the reluctance of schoolchildren to give up their seats to their elders in trams, and as a passenger of the Mount Roskill tram' I would like to speak a word in defence of these young people. I have always found, without exception, that the secondary schoolchildren are only too willing to give up their seats to those standing. By the time the tram reaches my stop in, the morning, the seats are invariably all taken, certainly a number of them by schoolchildren, but they.immediately stand up and offer their seats, not only to those in the immediate vicinity, but often .leave their seats in the centre of the tram and make room for those standing by the door. Therefore I feel it is cnly fair to the schoolchildren concerned who have saved me so much ''strap hanging" to voice my appreciation. 183.
