HOLLYWOOD STRIKE
All Major Motion Picture
Studios Affected
CAUSED BY UNION DISPUTE
Rec. 10 a.m. NEW YORK, March 13.
More than 15,000 motion picture employees are on strike in Hollywood. The strike affects all the major studios. Strikers are picketing the studios and sound stases.
Four major studios — R.K.0., Warner Brothers, Twentieth Century Fox and Pathe—were shut down during the day. Paramount, Universal, Columbia and M.G.M. continued to work, although their studios were picketed. Many stars, who reported to the studios to-day, left later because they were unable to carry on with their work.
The strike originated in a dispute between unions about which union should represent 72 set-decorators in industrial matters. _ An arbitrator's decision on union representation for decorators was rejected by the unions and the strike was called.
The Labour Board to-day told employees that they must return to work before the arbitrator s decision would be reviewed.
