FLOOD SUFFERERS
RED CROSS ASSISTANCE P.A. WELLINGTON, this* day. To help sufferers in the Otago and Temuka flood areas a grant of £300 was made by the emergency committee of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, £100 of this being for Kaitangata and £200 for Temuka, with an assurance that more support would be forthcoming if required.
Reports have been received by Red Cross headquarters from its branches in the South Island contiguous to the districts more extensively affected by the floods. The Timaru centre stated that members of its domestic and transport units had co-operated and a grant of £26 5/ from its funds was made for immediate relief purposes. The Otago centre, with headquarters in Dunedin, advised that its organisation was co-operating in the relief of sufferers in the Kaitangata district. The Geraldine centre reported that damage in the Temuka district had been appalling and many people had lost all their furnishings and personal belongings.
Both the Otago and Geraldine centres stated that they woidd welcome some measure of relief from the Red Cross disaster relief fund.
