THE COMPLAINTS COMMITTEE
In Auckland there are three committees which allow specifically for co-operation between the Hospital Board and the doctors—the Standing Committee for Administration and Future Hospital Planning, the Hospital Executive Committee and the Council of Appointments. The Standing Committee, as its full title denotes, deals with future planning. It is composed of six members of the board, including the chairman, and three representatives of the 8.M.A., while the two medical superintendents and also the architect attend. ■ • .. The Hospital Executive Committee is responsible for the clinical organisation of the Auckland Hospital and is composed of medical representatives, including the superintendent and representatives of the visiting staff. Its meetings are attended by the chairman of the board as he thinks fit, and its recommendations go before the full °The Council of Appointments is an advisory body composed of senior medical men and representatives ot medical colleges. It makes recommendations regarding appointments to the medical staff, but the final decision in respect of these appointments rests with the board. The Complaints Committee consists of five members of the board, including the chairman, who is also chairman of this committee. in addition it is attended by the two medical superintendents. The commUtee investigates all complaints in respect of patients, from deaths on the operating table to the loss of personal property, and also certain the two medical superintendents are each responsible to the board.
