TO-DAY'S RACING RAN SECOND

IN WRONG RACE

HITCH AT MATAMATA

There was an unusual incident in the running of the Hinuera Handicap at the Matamata Racing Club's meeting to-day. Bonny Baf, which was to have contested the second division, lined up at the barrier with the horses in the first division and went a great race to finish second. The stewards then met and disqualified Bonny Baf for the race, second place going to Amo Wings, which finished third. The weather was very hot and there was a large attendance. Led Most of the Way Besiege, which showed a clean pair of heels to the opposition at Te Awamutu in December,, led practically all the way to win the TirSu Hurdles and, although he ran down the last jump badly, he had sufficient pace to go on and beat Our Nation rather well. He paid better than four to one, which was a good price for this class of race. Valsome was actually first to show out from Besiege, Owing, and Gayjax, but when the horses came to the straight Besiege had taken command from Gayjax and at the first fence in this stretch Prakash fell heavily and Two Palls fell over him. The only alteration after that was that Our Nation ran through half a mile from home to oust Gayiax from second place, but she had no chance of overhauling the leader. Rere Tere was a failthird and then came Gayjax and Valsome. Started in Wrong Division The Hinuera Handicap was run in two divisions, and Silver Treasure won the first rather well from Bonny Baf. The latter was always prominent and really looked like winning half-way down the straight, but Silver Treasure finished just too good. Subsequently the stewards met and Bonny Gaf was disqualified for second place because he was actually in the second division and should not have started in the first division. Second place went to Amo Wings and third to Spearfast, which just shaded Tin Musk. Ballina lost his rider after going a quarter of a mile.

The second division was won by Theopilus, which finished attractively to score by a neck from Ninth Star. Lady Falcon, Saffron Walden and Red Fort made the early running, but Baby Girl got to.the lead at the top and led into the straight. Theopilus then came along and' won nicely by a neck from Ninth Star, with half a length to Lady Falcon.

Alniaza Scores Almaza fought oil to win the Waharoa Handicap from Roman Duke, which came home solidly after being well back at the home turn. Peter Douglas was the first to show out, and he led along the back from Victory Song, Almaza, Hunting King, Bonny Pay and Roman Duke. Almaza led into the straight, and in a keen race down the home stretch won by three-quarters of a length from Roman Duke. Peter Douglas was a length away third, and then came Bonny Pay, Victory Song, Powys and Royce. . Detailed results: — TIRAU HURDLES of £151). One mile and fire furloncs.
