LUFTWAFFE STRENGTH Rec. 10 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 29: The magazine Aeroplane estimates \ the total strength of the Luftwaffe in Western Europe at only about 1 230 D aircraft. The bulk of the Luftwaffe is now concentrated in Western Europe. '". 7j-r Taking into account that scarcely more than 75 per cent of the total strength is always operational, Germany has only 1700 aircraft available for air defence of the German fortress and for' support of Rundstedt's drive. The strongest contingent is fighters, which total 1500 to 1800. Many bomber groups consist only of a few squadrons of three aeroplanes each. There are scarcely ,more than 200 atta'ck planes at the i most and 100 heavy bombers avail'able for operations.
