BARK AND BITE
» Dr. W. H. Pettit has been good enough to present me with a copy of his little book, "Evolution." Inside the cover are some riddles called "Questions for Thoughtful People." I thought I was stumped by the last one, which is: "And how could a typhoid fever germ grow into a kauri tree?" But suddenly the answer came to me, and I think it must be the right one; onlv the question should be, I think: "Why does a typhoid fever germ . . . etc?" Answer: "Because the first has a bite and no bark, and the second has bark and no bite." Is that right? (Rear-Admiral) ROBT. M. LAWSON.
