OUR NEW YEAR-MESSAGE

Dear Girls and Boys,— Meet Anna and Sergei and Wllheimina and Ah Fong and Demetrius! The little people who bave strayed into our corner to-day from other lands represent Poland, Russia, Holland, China and Greece (in the crder of the typical nanes we have mentioied) and they are Jnly a few of our nany allies whom tve would like yoi to think about at a special New fear resolution. Some resolutons we make mean lard work for us, and are, oh, so diffcult to keep, aren't they? But this resolution is one you can pop Into your minds and:ake out every now and again to think >ver during the yeai. It is this: That you will make a raw to be friendly and sympathetic towirds the people of other countries all ;our lives.

We know that many of you lave shown-your sympathy for the ehiidrm of other lands who have suffered in this war, by sending money and gifts iverseas. We know that many of you lave contributed toys for the Polish chillren

at Pahiatua, whom we have beer so happy to welcome to our land. We kiow how interested many of you art in making penfriends overseas, and we are only sorry wo cannot help you to find new penfriends until after the war. But we do hope very much that you will all keep tnat sympathy and frimdltness towards the people of other nitionalities when you grow up. For you will be the men and women of to-morrow, and if you are friendly towards people overseas you will have a greater chance of keeping peace in the world. And you all know only too well how terrible war is. We do not need to tell you that you must do all you can to prevent war vhen you grow up, whether you have important positions in public life or ordinary, everyday ones.

So, boys and girls, we hope you will all learn to care about the people of other nationalities; that you will try to understand their problems and their way of living. We hope you will always remember to look beyond your own homes and gardens and careers, out beyond the Tasman, picturing those other people who are not so very different from you, and with whom you must be friends if you want to be happy and at peace. This is our New Year thought for you— and for ourselves —and may 1945 be a happy year for you all, dear Sunbeams! Love from
