DAMAGE BY TORNADO
O.C. SYDNEY, Dec. 26. Roofs were torn from houses, trees and electric light and telephone cables blown down, and windows blown in, when a 72 m.p.h. tornado on Thursday, in the space of only a few minutes, cut a swathe through part of the suburb of Waverley. The iron roof of a garage was torn off and flung 30ft on to the roof of a house next door. Orte resident described the tornado in these words: "I saw the willywilly come sweeping in from the west like a big black funnel. Then there was a series of loud crashes ss it unroofed houses. Sparks flashed as overhead cables were torn down. Four big sheets of roofing iron were carried up into the air ana out to sea. In a few moments it was all over."
