SEA BORN FANCIED

IN THE PRESIDENT'S

SMITH BRACKET IN CLASSIC

The Great Northern Trotting Derby will be one of the chief attractions at the Auckland Club's meeting at Alexandra Park to-morrow, and of the ten horses which have survived the final payment F. J. Smith's pair, Bexley's pride and Josie Dell, have the best form. This pair certainly failed to run up to expectations on Wednesday, but their Addington running was good, and they will probably do better In this small field. Laurie Bingen is smart, and Indian Star has impressed in his training at Epsom. The President's Handicap field Is comprised of horses which contested the Auckland Cup, and Betty Boop, the Cup winner, may find it hard to beat Sea Born, Lady Dawn and Volo Senwod from her present mark. Sea Born was in a bit of trouble early in the Cup race, and his was a good performance to finish fourth, while Lady Dawn, second in the Cup, also has excellent prospects. Black Label is very consistent, and if he is handy as they come into the home stretah may take some beating. Claremorris, winner of a double on Wednesday, should have many admirers in the Farewell Handicap, and his chief trouble may be Hilda Potts, which should be improved by her race on the opening day. Among the prospects are:— 11.30—Tamaki Handicap: FirewaterJock McGrath bracket, Willie Winkie, Sure Lady. 12.20—Park Handicap: Te Taonganui, Aranui Jack bracket, Heyday.
