SALE OF SLY GROG

FIRST CASE FOR SOME TIME

A denial that he had sold liquor to a Maori on December 26 was made by John Collins (35), coal and firewood merchant, when he appeared in the Police Court to-day, before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., charged with selling liquor without a license. Mr. K. C. Aekins appeared for Collins. The magistrate said the evidence was quite clear and convicted Collins. "It is some time since there have been any of these cases before the Court, but I cannot yet relax the penalty, which has been one of imprisonment," added Mr. Luxford. Collins was sentenced to one months' imprisonment.
