NEWTON BURGLARS
THEATRE SAFE BLOWN
SUM OF £45 STOLEN
Some burglars went to the Vogue Theatre in Karangahape Road last night, but not to see the pictures. They were more interested in the safe in the manager's office on the first floor. From this they . stole about £45, after completely blowing off the door with gelignite. First the burglars entered thf , adjoining premises of Crighton d'Ora, Ltd., photographers, 338, Karangahape Road, after forcing the front door. From the oflice they stole £5, and then went into a light well at the roar, from which they gained entry' to the Vogue Theatre. Dragging down the drop curtain on the stage, the safebreakers usea it to place over the safe and thus muffle the sound of the gelignite exploding in the keyhole. When the staff arrived at the theatre this morning they found the office in a state of disorder, the safe open and the money missing. Detectives are investigating.
