Advances In Arakan And Northern Regions ALLIED PLANES ACTIVE Rec. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, Dec. 27. West of the Mayu River, in Arakan. British patrols have entered a village five miles north of Foul Point, states South-east Asia Headquarters. Following an air strike, our troops captured a village on the plain east of the Mayu River about 14 miles south-south-east of Buthidaung. , _ The Chinese, in North Burma, continued to clear the Namhkam Road between the milestones 35 and 52. The main task force was engaged in extensive patrol action in the Tonkwa area. The British sent patrols south of Tigyaing along the Irriwaddy. . . Four enemy aircraft were intercepted by Allied fighters off the coast of Arakan on Christmas night. Two were destroyed and the ether two were damaged. Allied aircraft gave strong support to ground forces in Arakan, and destroyed or damaged river craft elsewhere and attacked Japanese-occupied districts near the Irrawaddy. Other formations attacked rail and river communications and bombed and strafed airfields in central Burma.
